Lisa Smith, ceramic sculptor
When I first saw Lisa Smith and her work at the New Mexico Museum of Fine Art in Santa Fe, I immediately fell in love with her whimsical ceramic pieces and her youthful charming spirit. With plenty of ceramic filled niches, muraled ceilings, and meandering walls, the home she and her husband, Michael, built in the forest outside of Santa Fe reflects the couple’s playful creativity. Full of colorful eye candy, Lisa’s studio is dominated by a wall collage of artists such as Gauguin, Chagall, and Frida Kahlo, who serve as inspiration and influence for her work. It was a delightful experience photographing her as she created her funny cats, angels, and devils each with a hidden surprise for the viewer. Lisa's wonder-filled work is available through the Karen Melfi Gallery in Santa Fe and the Mariposa Gallery in Albuquerque. |
